I am a professional artist, a painter. I am working in Lille, north of France. I made medical studies to become a dental surgeon. I also studied sociology and Library and Information Sciences. After my studies I returned to Art School. Eight years of psychoanalysis made me as an artist. Since 2006 my work has been showed in many exhibitions mostly in a regional and national area and internationally since 2022. I discovered encaustic painting in 2007 and in 2015 I created my blog Art & Encaustic that gathered all my researches about encaustic and all the artists that use this medium in France, Europe and North America for the most part.
Then in 2021, to raise the bar in my own practice, I attended the 14th International Encaustic Virtual Conference and finally in 2022 the 15th International Encaustic Conference in person in Provincetown, Massachusetts, USA. My recent works were exhibited during this event.
My work is oriented around four themes: color, material, movement and human.
Color is the center of my art for more than 15 years. It is a permanent research and the way I choose to make a connection between my art and the world I live in. With the color I engage myself in a world of sensibility and poetry, an aesthetic choice that is not an easy way but also, I might say, a fight.
Material is a major preoccupation in artist’s work. I worked with different mediums as oil paint, acrylic, photography, wood engraving and now encaustic. Painting is a physical engagement, a fight with material. The more you are physically engaged the more your art gives you higher results. Wax can be liquid and solid, a malleable medium, in movement.
The movement. It is the engine of my artist’s work and my life: to be in movement. Maybe I could have become a musician or a librarian. More simply I want to be an artist. Life is change and movement around us but also in every inner metabolic structure of all living beings. But surrounded by the frenetic movement of this world we have to find our own movement that make us what we are to be in harmony with the world we live in. I take part of an International Encaustic Movement and threw this I follow my own path. And human feed that movement.
Human. Our humanity creates a constant interaction between all members of the human species, wherever we want it or not. To understand that human species I started my personal research by choosing medical studies when I was 18. After that I also studied sociology. In 2011, after spending a year of exploring the Void, I met Rotraut, who was Yves Klein’s wife, and later in 2020 I met Philippe Cognée, a French painter working with encaustic. In 2022 I went to Provincetown to connect with the International Encaustic Community and met Joanne Mattera, a major contemporary artist working with encaustic, who created that community. Art is a wonderful space of meetings to connect with others. The human project of Encaustic is a social and cultural prospective to connect with many professional artists in Europe, the United States, Canada and worldwide.
My New Series Incertitudes en Mouvement is a proposition and the most achieved form of my art after many years of personal researches. I try with this series to give some new perspectives in contemporary Encaustic.

Les notes originales de ce statement ont été écrites en anglais après la 15ème Conférence Internationale de l'Encaustique en juillet 2022. Les versions française et anglaise sont légèrement différentes.
Je suis artiste professionnel. Je vis et travaille à Lille dans le nord de la France. J’ai une formation médicale et j’ai également étudié la sociologie et les sciences de l’information. Après mes études j’ai repris des cours en Ecole des Beaux Arts. Parallèlement à cela huit années de psychanalyse ont fait de moi l’artiste que je suis. Depuis 2006 mon travail a été présenté dans de nombreuses expositions au niveau régional et national et depuis peu au niveau international. En 2007 j’ai découvert la peinture à l’encaustique et en 2015 j’ai créé mon blog Art & Encaustic qui rassemble mes recherches et les artistes utilisant cette technique principalement en France, en Europe et en Amérique du Nord. En 2021 et 2022 je me suis formé aux techniques contemporaines de l’encaustique en participant puis en me rendant à Provincetown aux Etats Unis pour la 15ème Conférence Internationale de l’Encaustique. A cette occasion mes œuvres récentes à l’encaustique ont été exposées.
Mon travail s’oriente autour de quatre axes principaux : la couleur, la matière, le mouvement et l’humain.
La couleur est l’élément central de mon art depuis plus de 15 ans, c’est une recherche permanente et la voie que j’ai choisie pour établir une connexion entre mon art et le monde qui m’entoure. Avec la couleur m’engager pour une sensibilité et une poétique du monde, un choix esthétique qui n’est pas forcément une voie de la facilité mais aussi un combat.
La matière est une préoccupation majeure dans le travail d’un artiste. J’ai pratiqué différents médiums, la peinture à l’huile, l’acrylique, la photographie, la gravure sur bois puis à présent l’encaustique. Dans la peinture, l’art est un engagement physique, un combat avec la matière. La cire me permet de travailler avec une matière malléable, liquide et solide à la fois. Une matière en mouvement.
Le mouvement. Il est le moteur de ma pratique artistique et de ma vie. Etre en mouvement. Devenir musicien ou bibliothécaire ? être artiste tout simplement. La vie même est mouvement et changement jusque dans les structures métaboliques internes de tous les êtres vivants. Mais à côté de la frénésie que ce monde nous impose il s’agit de trouver le mouvement juste, celui qui nous est propre pour être en harmonie avec le monde qui nous entoure. Je m’insère aujourd’hui dans un mouvement mondial, celui de l’Encaustique, et être ainsi porté pour tracer ma propre trajectoire. Un mouvement qui se nourrit de l’être humain.
L'humain. Notre humanité nous place en interaction constante avec les autres membres de notre espèce, que nous le voulions ou non. Ma recherche personnelle pour comprendre l’être humain m’a amené très jeune à choisir une discipline médicale. Après cela j’ai également étudié la sociologie. En 2011, après une année passé à l’exploration du Vide, j’ai rencontré Rotraut qui fût la femme d’Yves Klein. En 2020 j’ai pu rencontrer Philippe Cognée, artiste français peignant à l’encaustique, puis en 2022 l’artiste Joanne Mattera, figure majeure de l’encaustique actuelle aux Etats Unis. L’art est un formidable espace de rencontres permettant de s’ouvrir aux autres. Le projet humain de l’encaustique se présente à moi comme un enjeu social et culturel mondial me permettant d’être en contact avec de nombreux artistes en Europe, Etats Unis, Canada et partout dans le monde.
Ma nouvelle série Incertitudes en Mouvement est une proposition et la forme la plus aboutie pour ma peinture, grâce à la cire, après plusieurs années de recherches. A travers cette série je tente d’apporter de nouvelles perspectives en Encaustique contemporaine.
